Question:

I've Got Questions about Australia

I'm going to Australia and I was wondering what to do in the matters of cell phones. I know I'll need a plug converter but will I need a voltage converter as well? I have an ATT and Verizon phone. Which will work, which won't, and the like.

  1. we do have electricity here!!

    lol

cell phones. are you american? we say mobiles here =) haha goodluck.. you'll love it here.

  2. Unfortunatly you phone won't work here, we run on a mobile network not a cellular one like in the US. You can by all means bring your phone and buy a cheap sim card to use while in Aus, Vodafone sell one for $2 on the prepaid network.

The plug converter should be a voltage converter too, just check before you buy

EDIT - The phone will work here, but I'm pretty sure the service won't. Check with ATT, I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the networks are too different.

  3. aus is 240v

  4. Most chargers are multi voltage. I've just checked all of ours and every one says 100 - 240v. Check what it says on the charger plug or transformer. If it includes 240v, you only need a plug converter.

    EDIT:

Your phone will work here if you have global roaming enabled (ask ATT about that), but I understand that calls are very expensive if you do it that way. Your best bet will probably be to bring your phone and get an Australian prepaid sim card for it.
