Question:

I Keep Sleeping Sitting Up?!?

I have always been a pretty good sleeper. Sometimes it would take me a while to drift off but then I would sleep the whole night through and go into a fairly deep quiet sleep. Over the past 5 months I have been sitting up in my sleep and I end up sleeping most of the night like that. I will wake up literally sitting bolt upright in bed. Slowly it has become that I am now more comfortable sitting up to fall asleep than laying down just as it now feels really uncomfortable. And it is now ruining everyone’s night’s sleep as it has got to the point where it scares the h**l out of my sister who I share a room with as she thinks I’m possessed or something (I know that sounds over exaggerated but its true). She will go and get my mom or dad and then they will try to push me back down to sleep but then I apparently become quite nasty and end up sitting up again even if they get me to lie back down. I have also apparently been talking a lot in my sleep lately to. I remember none of this (the talking, people coming into the room and trying to make me lay down, me being nasty to them) and I don’t have a clue why it is going on and I am really worried about it. Sleep experts help lol! Thanks so much in advance! Xx

  1. woah that's freaky! .. ..!   I'd be afraid you were possessed too!  I wouldn't want to sleep in the same room with you lol

I use to laugh uncontrollably in my sleep, and my mom would come in and try to get me to stop & I wouldn't. I don't remember it (laughing or her coming in) but it was just a phase.

You'll probably phase out of it... I guess all you can do is talk to your doctor about it. Doesn't sound very comfy.. good luck~

  2. You should go to the doctor and have a sleep study done. They can figure out if there is an underlying problem that makes it more comfortable to sleep upright. You might have trouble breathing lying down and your subconscious knows this.

  3. wow thats an interesting question, Its ok for you to sleep however you want as long as you are comfortable with it :) Hope this helps
