and i really like the jeep wrangler and the rubicon but i heard there are no airbags and its not practical for everyday driving more like a weekend car... are there similar cars that are more practical for long island driving?

Nissan Sentra is what I'd go for. The 2007 edition is a great car for daily driving and useful if you're taking the family along or traveling in a group. Gets around 29MPG combined, over 33-36MPG highway. The only problem is limited back seat leg room, but it gets over it with lots of power & fast pickup.
