I cant start a conversation?

Okay so I am more of a quite person. I can engage in conversation but I have a hard time starting one. Just recently boyfriend have been telling me how he would like me to talk more. I have inproved in this area with him. Then he brought up why he wont take me to family cookouts and get togethers because he thinks that I will just be sitting there not talking. He is not understanding that if someone talks to me I can carry a conversation its just me starting one thats the issue. If you understand this how can I get him to understand? Also whats so advice about starting conversations??

As silly as it might sound, the weather is always a good topic to break the ice.  Say something like "My goodness, it has really been (hot, cold, rainy, beautiful, whatever) the last few days." They will either agree or disagree, and you can go from there.  Or compliment them about their clothing or personal appearance.  People love to hear nice things about themselves, and it automatically makes them want to like you and talk with you.

It's easy, ask people questions about themselves. People that like to talk usually love talking about themselves. Just make sure your questions aren't too personal or controversial for light conversation.

And your boyfriend sounds rude.

You just did.....but...your BOYFRIEND said that you should talk MORE?!?....holy cow !!....this IS serious....he should be more understanding though...

You can ask questions like

"Did you come far?

Where do you live?

Do you know everyone here.....who's that over there?

What's your relationship to .......?"

These are open questions which means that the person would normally give more than a one-word reply and that would start the conversation.

You could also ask do you like dancing, what music do you like, or ask questions about the things You like doing, which opens the way to discussing your hobbies and interests.

like wow nice shirt where did you get it. How do you feel about cookouts?

just get to know them as if you were to learn more about your boyfriend but don't ask the sexual ones!

Keep up w/what's going on in the world. Read a little bit of everything, that way you can start a conversation w/anyone.

If someone is good in introducing to other ppl, they should tell you what that person is interested on and that way you can ask questions to start a conversation.

During family outings, just ask questions that will make you seem interested in them. and some times just talking about the weather will get a conversation going.

During this times of economic turmoil, ppl are always eager to give opinions of what is going on.

Your boy friend sounds like a d**k..don't change for him or any one if people want to talk to you let them start it...if they don't who cares..too many people talk too much any ways.
