  1. You can go to Jr. College and then transfer to a real college with a certificate of completion.. and you can get a job.. I am not sure what you mean by real job.

How old is your brother? This is something they are suppose to make you aware of early in the process so that you can make an informed decision about the graduation tracks. The suggestion about voc rehab or other transition workability services made is a good one. If you are not on a diploma track the district may be requried to provide services to your brother until he is 21 and help him transition into a his next setting (Jr. College, work or whatever it should be).

If he is not eligible for a diploma it means he is not taking all the regular classes, standardized tests etc. Depending on his age it still might be fixable, but it depends if your brother could manage basically regular education course work with modifications.

www.wrightslaw.com has lots of information about special education law and policies.

  2. School systems suck. That's for sure. Try to talk to the school- If they continue to say that it's all they can do- Tell them that it's all a bunch of B.S. I know a boy who completed High School who was Autistic and they gave him his diploma. Why not someone who's on Sp. Ed?

  3. You can get a real job with a certificate of attendance (completion).

Our students register with Vocational Rehabilitation at the age of 16. Voc Rehab also helps with job placement. Go to them if you are in the US. They will help with a job and other contracting agencies who can assist your brother with work skills and job placement.

  4. it depends on the state=some give all studnets real diplomas if tehy meet standard requirements or teh requiremnts of the IEP-

other states still discriminate against studnets with disabilities and only giv eteh certificates of completion-or a modified standard diploma-

sometimes tehre are routes you can take to get upgraded-such as passing the standardized test=or getting a GED

see if its too lat to change tracks-he can stay in HS until he is 21 to try to meet teh requirements...
