Ok, so the world is a round circle lets say. but no matter where you are it will always be flat, i mean, if your on the bottom of the earth how can it still be flat?

Also if you kept flying straight in a plane, how come you will keep circling the world and not fly off it?

  1. The world is circular...you can see the curvature when you look out over the ocean...that is why you see ships sail beyond the horizon. Your perspective simply makes it look flat, but the earth is so big the curve is unnoticeable unless you are looking over the ocean. Planes do not fly "straight" . They fly in arcs.

  2. cuz of gravity

  3. It's not flat..your just not far enough away to see the curvature and if you DID fly straight in a plane you would end up in outer space if you had the fuel.

  4. actually the earth is not a circle it's and oblate spheroid... just to clear that up

  5. lol @world is round lets say....they're lying to us!!!!!!!!!

But th answer is that because the earth is so big that from our perspective we cannot see the curve.

The plane is within the earths atmopshere and so as the earth turns the plane moves with it.

  6. It's not flat, its just so big that the area that you can see seems flat as it's stretched so large over the earth. If you find a really flat area of land, the horizon will look slightly curved.

Gravity keeps a plane held into the earth's atmosphere :) x

  7. The Earth is not flat. It is slightly curved. You don't notice the curve because you are so small and the Earth is so large.

Planes do not "fly straight". They fly following the slight curve of the Earth. If a pilot chose to fly in a straight line, then he would increase altitude. The altimeter on a plane can only remain constant at a height if you follow the curve of the Earth.

  8. 1. its not... it looks that way from space.... heard of something called mountains...

    2. gravity!!!!!

  9. i don't think you are the only one who doesn't

  10. You do see the curvage of the earth: like by the horizon.

  11. it is because the earth is so big, it seems flat to us.

if u were to fly completely straight, u would leave the earth, but in a plane the gravity is pulling us down

  12. Actually the Earth's surface is curved, but since the Earth is relatively large, and you are so small in relation to it, and right on the surface, you are not able to detect the very slight curvature that exists in your field of view.
