  1. Allrighty, i know EXACTLY how you feel! I've been homeschooled for my hole life, (i am in 8th grade) And my mom runs her own book store so she is gone most of the time.  When ever i feal like cheating I take a 5 min break and check my e-mail or doing somthing fun, THEN i go back and i just finsh it as fast as i can! my sister is having the same thing that u do,  no matter WHAT dont give up! this will haunt you for the rest of ur life! lol!

  2. I encourage you to pray. Ask God for His infinite wisdom and courage.

  3. The longer you wait, the bigger hole you are digging.

Generally parents aren't stupid, and they will figure it out.

It is much better if you confess.

But if you won't do that, then quit cheating NOW!

Study hard to get the knowledge of what you need

Since when is someone homeschooled, and parents not home?

    The bottom line is:

    1. You tell them now and get in a lot of trouble, and have a few years to try to fix it.

    2. Keep going like you are, each day that you continue to cheat, you get further behind.  Until at some point you have to take a test that is given with someone watching you, and you can't do it.  Suddenly your parents will know.

And they will be even more upset because you never told them.

  4. NO ONE IS STUPID--please do not ever say anything like that about yourself.  You are a very couragous person for asking for help; I am SOOOO proud of you; thanks for letting us help you.

Why are you cheating?  Are you struggling to do the work?  Do you need help?  Do you have a learning problem and need more than you are getting (perhaps a tutor?).  That is the first concern I have.

As a professional (and a mom), I would like to know if there is something else going on, leading you to be dishonest or feel the need to (perhaps therapy is needed or a mentor that is not family that you can share with).

Lying (and cheating is a component of lying) is concerning.  If I were your parent, I would WANT to know (but I believe I would already know), so I think you need to find someone to talk with, and share your feelings and get to the bottom of it, and WHY you are doing it now.

YES, home schooling parents are not all AT HOME / non-working!  That is NOT reality for everyone; I stay home but have a job; so does my spouse (outside the home works) but we have to pay the bills.  Home schooling is great, no matter HOW we can financially make it happen.  Not everyone can have one parent HOME all the time / not working.

Let us know what happens; you can e-mail me privately; I set that up.  I am JUST A MOM with a lot of experience in Marion, IA.  Good luck, dear, and thanks for ASKING us for help!!

  5. Why don't you redo the material, this time without cheating? You're already familiar with it so it wouldn't take as long to go through. Sure, it might mean taking more time each day to work on stuff, but it'll be worth it in the end.

  6. You are NOT stupid.  You are very smart and mature for admitting you have a problem and asking for help.  That was the first step.  Now you have to find out why you are cheating - are you just too lazy?  is the work too difficult?  too easy?  too boring?

Whatever the reason, you know that you are only cheating yourself by not learning the material.  There will come a time when you will be tested (SAT/ACT) and then your secret will be out.  The question is - will it be too late?

If you aren't going to tell your parents, you're going to have to go back and actually learn everything that you've cheated on.  If the material is boring, find something interesting about it and research that on your own (outside the "class" materials).  If it's too challenging, you'll definitely have to either a). tell your parents it's too tough (and you've been cheating your way through) or b). do more studying on your own so you can understand the material.

For future reference: The ACT tests what you have been exposed to, so this may not be the best test for you to take.  The SAT is a reasoning test - how well do you solve problems and use the information presented.  Generally, boys tend to do better on the SAT and girls score higher on the ACT.

  7. I dont think youll be too bad in college. Most kids forget everything they learn over the summer anyway, unless they practice all the time. Just study for your sats and learn how to do the problems, and you should be fine. I would do the same thing in your position.

  8. So, you're saying that if you don't memorize the answers to questions that makes you stupid?  Not.  Obviously, you know how to find the answers. That's smart. And, you do write them down, which is a way of teaching them to yourself. Public school has a set method of teaching, they adopt a curriculum and then teach it to everyone, whether it works for them or not. Many people are not memorizers, who can then spit out what they've memorized. The beauty of homeschooling is that regardless of your learning style, you can choose to learn. So, since you don't seem to want to do this by memorizing, I'd guess that's not an easy way for you to learn. Writing the answers down may be an active way for you to absorb the information. If you can write it down without learning something, I'd be astonished! If you feel like you need to make more effort to actually be "learning", then I'd suggest you research the topic on the internet or at the library.  Look for videos or look at tv schedules for information on the discovery channel or history channel. Enjoy!
