I have an obsession with....?

l*****g things ok i remember i use to always bite my fingernails and i had finally got rid of that habit now i'm always l*****g things my index finger, my pinkie, instead of cleanin off a cd that had fingerprints on it i licked it clean egh i know it's gross but i won't bore you/gross you out with details what should I do?

  1. What it sounds like to me is that you feel insecure within yourself. Since dealing with fears of insecurity and inadequacy develop as we get older, our methods of coping with the problem change. For babies, the primary tool is touch, whether its the warm comforting embrace of mommy when they cry, or the soft familiar touch of their favorite blanket that they can carry around the house with them. They can 'touch' the thing that brings them comfort, and so it does. As we get older, usually, we slowly develop away from our senses and rely more on 'idea' blankets to help us with our insecurity. But, if someone hasn't progressed beyond the tactile stage of reassurance (maybe they didn't get enough physical reassurance when they were in need or were simply ignored or kept it to themselves) then physical acts become the equivalent of the emotional blanket children carry around with them.

    Since you know immediately, when you l**k something, if its harmful or not, your mind interprets that immediacy as being trust-worthy. Unlike what someone else might have told you, or said to you, your tongue cannot lie to you. Therefore, like a snake flicking its tongue out into the air to taste for danger, your obsession with l*****g suggests the same to me. And trying to 'rationalize' the fact that you are 'such and such' or at such and such an age, and don't need to do that, is contrasted by your need to l**k to gain reassurance, which only creates more conflict and stress, which only reinforces your own insecurity, which makes you need to l**k all the more.

    If l*****g is interpreted by your brain as comforting, stressing yourself out (or being in situations that stress you out) will only make the need to l**k stronger. If that is what is happening to you, and you are really bothered by your behavior, then you probably need to see some sort of mental health professional who can help you work through why you l**k and what it represents. Once you understand it, your obsession with l*****g should subside to normal levels, like when you make brownies and just have to l**k every piece of chocolate residue left in the bowl.


  2. there is stuff at the pharmacy you can buy, you "paint" it on your fingers so when you put your fingers in your mouth it will taste horrible.they use it for toddlers who suck their thumb.-blurey

  3. Its a psycological problem you must visit a doctor.

  4. Get rid of it by replacing with another habit like you did with biting your nails. ummm... like touching your hair, biting you lip, scratching your arm. sorry but any of those would be more healthy for you than l*****g stuff that's just gross!
