  1. Moving is exhausting...you could bring them a cake or a casserole..Wine is also nice.

Just pop over and introduce yourself...that is a friendly gesture in itself.

  2. I  think baking a cake, cookie or somthing fresh and home baked is a good way to introduce yourself. It is thoughtful for you to even want to acknowledge your neighbors this day and time. People are so buys, most do not do anything for their neighbors.

I like making brownies, bake a cake or pie and take to my new neighbors as a way of welcoming them into our community.

One thing I do not do enough of is sending soup or something over to a neighbor when I know they are not feeling well. You question was a good thought provoking one and it made me realize I do not do enough for my neighbors.

  3. Have a patio party and invite a few of your friends and go over and ask the neighbors if they would like to join.

  4. Walk over, knock on their door, and welcome them to the neighbourhood.  A small gift of a "welcome to the neighbourhood" mode is always nice.  If your area has any odd quirks (homeowner's association bugaboos, trash pickup days, etc...it's a good time to convey this).  I'm sure your hospitality will be warmly appreciated.

An American family from Georgia moved in two doors down from me a few months ago...I gave them an ice scraper since they probably weren't used to it!

  5. I recently moved into a new home in a new subdivision so we're all new.  I introduced myself to my neighbors by catching them outside while I was returning from checking my mail.  One neighbor was extremely friendly and reciprocated the greeting but the other one was rather reserved and withdrawn so... I doubt there will be any further communication.  Everyone is different... your neighbor may or may not be open to your introduction.  Some perceive that as you having a hidden agenda.  So... consider that when deciding how and when you approach your neighbors.

  6. cookies and milk..... yummmmmm    ")

  7. Bringing over baked goods is too weird if your a guy... your not a soccer mom.  I'd bring over a good bottle of Chardonnay or, if its more your style, a six pack... anyone dealing with moving would appreciate some beer to kick back with after a long day.

If you live in an apartment, I'd just wait till you run into each other in the hall or elevator and offer your help if they ever needed anything.

  8. Bring something to welcome them. Could be some flowers. We got cookies from our neighbors when we moved in, another family baked banana bread for us.

You don't necessarily need to bring anything with you. Another neighbor just came by and introduced himself.

When I was a kid, our neighbor (who later became my godfather) sent a note to my Dad inviting him to a cup of coffee.

In a nutshell, just smile and be yourself. =)
