Im 15 and I have an intrest in music, I want to get a bass guitar for christmas. just a starter package of decent quality, a traditional Fender look and at or below 300 $, I have been looking at the Squier Stop Dreaming Start Playing Affinity P and J bass packages, would that be a good starting instrument?

  1. I started on a J bass & still have it. they are decent quality. It's a nice starter point.

I usually recommend Peavey for my beginning students. It's a good bang for the buck.  The Squire pack is about the same price, but of lesser quality (my opinion). The Peaveys usually come out of the box in play condition and play easily.  The Squires usually need a neck adjustment and the frets on them jut out (very uncomfortable for your hand).  Not all Squires are bad, but their quality is not as consistent as the Peavey.  Squire is made by Fender, which is a big name, but big name doesn't mean good quality all the time.  Good luck.  Bass rocks.

  3. What I've heard about most "Bass Starter Packs" is that the amp it comes with is pretty poor. You could put together your own starter pack for about the same money, with better gear.

    Ibanez GSR200 - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/I...

    Acoustic AB50 Amp - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/A...

    15 ft. Monster Cable - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Monster-Cabl...

(That would be the lower price, lol)

...and a gig bag; any gig bag.

It'll end up running you about the same or a tiny bit more than a starter pack, but you won't have to worry about the quality of anything - they're all solid items. Hope that helps a bit.

  4. Its true that Squier is the worst big name brand in the market, but thats got guitars. They are very good in making basses. It would be a bit cheaper if you dont buy the pack and buy it individually. Get an Squier Affintiy Jazz Bass if you play softer genres or Squier Affinity Precision Bass for harder genres. They go for $150. Then get a small amplifier. 15 watts is enough for a starter. They ranges from around 50-100. A cord and the other accessories shouldnt be that expensive. Get a gigbag too.

  5. Bogdon 2-string Bass is a crazy great acoustic/electric bass.

see the video, its available almost everywhere...
