my AP english class is requiring us to read a book a quarter, as an outside reading book. I really dont like to read and have no idea what book to choose.

I liked reading The Catcher In The Rye by JD Salinger, and would want something kind of like that.

I need a book that hooks me quickly, but possibly something that deals with life. Basically something that leaves me thinking.

ANY SUGGESTIONS??

  1. There's two great books that I have read in the last two months. They are both by S.E. Hilton. One is called 'The Outsiders'.

'The Outsiders' is a probably one of the greatest and saddest books in our time. It describes the life of Ponyboy, a greaser that appreciates the finer things in life than fighting or ditching school. This book follows Ponyboy and his greaser freinds as they head in the rumble of a lifetime.

The other book is 'Rumble Fish' This book potrays Rusty-James, a loner who relies on his fist more than anything. Anything exept the Motercycle Boy. This book is much shorter but has as much heart and depth as any book.

If you like them, Francis Ford Coppola has made movies out of both of the movies, both which star Matt Dillon.

    I hoped I helped.

  2. Uglies, Pretties, Specials, or Extras. by scott westerfield.

  3. Try "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath

I read both Cather in the Rye and The Bell Jar and found both to be slightly similar.

  4. HARRY POTTER!!!

or the secret life of bees, or the perks of being a wallflower, or the 5 people you meet in heaven.  but harry potter is the best but the other 3 are probably more what you're looking for.

  5. Have you heard of the Twilight series? They're fantastic. It is at the top of the best seller list, so give it a go!!!!

  6. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

    anything written by Jane Austen

The Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

    Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

  7. "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas is the best book I've ever read, and I am an English major. It is a little long, but it is very compelling and it deals with the darker side of human nature. I sped through it the first time I read it because it was really compelling.

However, if you are looking for a shorter book, I also would recommend "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie or "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Emmuska Orczy.

  8. To Kill a Mockingbird

    Gone With the Wind

    Blue

  9. My english teacher recommended that we read a book called "Jumping the Nail". I signed it out yesterday (Thursday) and so far I read over 70 pages. It's really interesting but it's not a long story.

  10. The name of the Wind, and The Wheel of Time.

  11. The book My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult is about how a mother has a child to save another one of her children who has cancer. The girl who is supposed to save her sister wants to become medically emancipated from her parents, and not have to suffer for her sister. It truly is an amazing book, and this is coming from me, who does not like reading one bit! haha. Really, read this, it will get you hooked on the first page, and you will find many twists and turns to keep you entertained the WHOLE time!

  12. The Notebook

  13. The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath

It's about this girl who gets more and more depressed as the book goes on, but really interesting.  The author pretty much changed all the people in her life's names and wrote the book about her life.  the author actually ended up killing herself as the character (her) in the book tried to do.

    Persuasion - Jane Austen

It's better than Pride and Prejudice, though that's good too.

  14. Go Ask Alice is a good book....and its a true story.

  15. Either the Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns...both by an author named Khaled Hosseini. Honestly after reading any of those two I feel like all the other reading I do is bland in comparison....you should check them out.

    Goodluck and Happy Reading :)
