  1. For one, no legitimate acting agency will charge you anything. They take 10% of your earnings from the jobs they get you. You must have talent. That is number one. Everyone WANTS to be an actor but if you can't act, you can't act.

You need to build up your resume first. Be in plays, movies as an extra,  in local commercials, etc. Then, you must get a professional picture in black and white ,called a headshot , taken.

After you do that, find an agency that is at least relatively close to where you live. If you live in or by New York, a good but simple one is JMM talent, which holds open calls.  It helps, of course, to live in or near NYC or Los Angeles, even Chicago or Dallas or Miami. You can find a list of them at: http://www.actorsource.com/agents.html but if you are well experienced, meaning a few films and Television shows, you may want to try to get into a group of agencies called "The Big Five". Brad Pitt, Miley Cyrus, Angelina Jolie, and many, many more belong to these agencies.

      They are:

    Creative Artists Agency

    International Creative Management,

    Endeavor Agency,

    United Talent Agency,

    and William Morris Agency.

Some of these, like William Morris, have agencies all over the US. Before you sign with ANY agency, excluding the Big Five, check to makae sure they are a union certified agency. Call any of the actors unions to find out:

    AFTRA

    SAG

    Actor's Equity

Good Luck! You may find the websites in the sources helpful. Never Give up.
