I need help! Making figurines?

Question

I'd like to be able to make figurines of people about say 5 inches high. I also want them to look realistic, but I want to be able to move them around and for them to be durable, like barbies.

Is there any way I can make some sort of clay to use or use some houshold objects to make them? I don't really want to have to buy anything.

Or should I just stick with buying some mannequins?

You could try making them out of Polymer clay ( $ 1.99 per 2 oz. block ). I don't know of anything else.
