  1. I'd personally say for an amp, go for a 4 channel amp that can amplify your high as well as your low, and for speakers, talk to people at the audio store.  Personally I'd go with 2 or 3 channel speakers in the back, and 3 or 4 channel speakers along with tweeters in the front.

  2. Are you replacing the speakers because they are blown ( ie sound bad ) or are you trying to add more bass for the type of music you listen to?

If the speakers are bad and you replace them with after market speakers you will still not be getting a lot of bass, if that is the goal I would suggest adding a sub woofer and amp and leaving the speakers if they sound ok. You can upgrade them later if they work but the sub will give you a whole dimension of music that the speakers in your car (and aftermarket speakers that would replace) them can do

with the budget you are planing on it will also be difficult to do four speakers and a four channel amp when you figure in the cost for parts and labor.

Are you planing to do the installation yourself or are you budgeting for that separately?

As a reference point my shop rate to install a 4 channel amp and 4 speakers would be almost half of your budget and when you add in the appropriate cabling for this job your going to be left with around $100.00 for the amp and four speakers or sub. It is going to be hard to find something decent in that price range.
