I need help with my computer!!!?

Question

came home... started computer.

my users are all deleted.. all files music, pics GONE.

I have ONE user now titled "owner"

this is a 4 yr old computer... with 4 yrs worth of stuff on it!

i even just had to reinstall my wireless router and A.I.M. IT WAS ALL GONE!!

its like its a brand new computer with nothing on it?

what happened??

should i get a new computer? HELP!!!

sounds like you have a Trojan virus problem..

no don't goto the expense  of buying an new computer download and install Linux it is free to download and use with all the software you will ever need. also free... Linux is faster more secure and upgraded every six months, you will have no problems running Linux

do a web search for linux there are several 2008 versions out Linux will make your computer dance

something like that is definitely scary to come home to. I would recommend a complete reinstall of windows. backup anyone files that you absolutely need but be careful because if you have a virus then it more than likely has infected most of your files. reinstall windows and start over... thats about all you can do to ensure you do not have a virus and that someone is not tracking you

it's probably a virus that wiped your hardrive

Are you sure the users are deleted? Maybe they're just hidden so someone can play a joke on you. Try making visible all hidden files and folders (from Tools -> Folder Options -> View) and check what's really left at C:\Documents and Settings.

Tough decisions are ahead and none of them are easy.

If it was someone who was mad at you and goofed up your computer, then all of the files are probably still there but in "deleted" format.  You can use one of many programs (go to CNET.com > downloads) to recover files on your hard drive.  

It you got hit with a virus, which is what it sounds like, you need to take your computer to a pro and first have it cleaned.  Just re-installing Windows won't get rid of a virus if it's in memory or in the bios.  However, here is a tough part.  BEFORE you re-install Windows, which will change everything on your hard drive and make file recovery impossible, you will have to take your hard drive to a pro and have the files recovered.  They can get most, if not all of your files back, but be sure to tell them you suspect a bug.

You can try to do it yourself with a program, but if a bug got past your virus protection once, it will do it again.

Either the laser or the drive itself is failing.

P.S.  Save your old hard drive, there are companies that can retrieve your data on it for a small fee...
