Question:

I need some plumbing help?

Ok to make a long story short our landlord is a jobless idiot and wont call the plumber. I am 9 months pregnant and I pee approximately every 20 minutes.

The toilet wont stop running. We have bought 2 new replacement flaps, but the water only stops running if you hold the flap down, and let the back of the toilet fill up. Is there anything I can do?

The toilet is a little older than this one in the picture, but its basically the same concept

  1. If your old man can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the entire kit(about 20 bucks or so) you know, the guts, and replace the entire inside parts, that will end the problem.

And get that landlord idiot to deduct from your rent the price of parts and 59 bucks for labor.

Good luck and congradulations I hope you and your new baby are both blessed.

  2. check the connecting "chain" from the flap to the handle, if it is tooo tight it can often keep the flap from sealing properly over the water out let at the bottom of the toilet. thus making it leak into the bowl and run continually.

  3. They make a repair kit to basically glue down on the opening of the tank where the flapper will seal better.  http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor...  Hope this helps.  Whoever gave me a thumbs down thanks and since they have put 2 new flappers on and they can stop the water by pushing down on the flapper, there is probably an imperfection in the hole at the bottom of the tank and this little kit will make a better seal,  cheaper than buying a new toilet.
