  1. 1. Improve running technique - via sprint training - coaching required

    2. Improve relative strength (strength/bodyweight) - heavy weight training with a focus on the posterior chain (glutes/hamstrings/low back) - exercises like squats, deadlifts, step-ups, lunges, single leg squats, reverse hyper-extensions etc.

    3. Improve power (rate of force development) - specific improvements via: sprint training, general improvements via: plyometrics (i.e. bounding, leaping, explosive medicine ball throws etc.), olympic lifting (i.e. cleans and snatches) or light weight weight training with a focus on speed (dynamic effort weight training) ie. speed squats/deadlifts, jump squats etc.

    4. Improve body composition - decrease %bodyfat via diet/training

    5. Improve flexibility - particularly in the hip flexors and quads which are generally tight in a lot of people

For more info read some of Kelly Baggett's material: http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/arti...

  2. Work out your legs

    Use blocks (in track)

    Do more conditioning

What are you trying to get faster in, real life or like track? For what kind (long/short distance)
