Unfortunately, here,in Turkey, section of Anthropology hasn't been developed.Even if you say someone that you graduated from Anthropology, they just stare at your face and say 'do you mean archeology?''

People who graduate from Anthropology, they don't work as a anthropologist or a searcher. 'cause you can't earn enough money.

I'm planning to go abroad after graduation and go on doing something about Anthropology.

Do you think the situation is same abroad? is there a chance?

  1. that is a shame you cannot practice because turkey is one giant excavation site. there are so many civilizations and sites from catal hoyuk to the hittites to the carians, phrygians, etc. etc.

  2. There are a lot of options open for you in Anthropology. I think it is good that you want to pursue this career.

I would get on line and see what you can find as far as Anthropology jobs that may interest you.

I have heard of AAA. I just dont know much about it.

    Good luck.

  3. Turkey is an Anthropoligists' dream.  I suspect you can hook up with any number of international groups doing or wanting to do research there.  I suspect you are a native of the country & that alone would make you a valuable member of any team.

    Edit:

proffs on answers in field are "Patrick I" & "berickf"  an email to one or both of them may get you a reply as to how to contact international teams.  Chuckle, I may risk making them angry by giving out their names.

  4. my school has 2 sectors of anthropology, one is cultural and the other focusses on primates. which one did you do. as for cultural, you would likely be studying other cultures & they both seem to tie in to archeology, don't they?

I have heard of AAA. I'm not an anthro major but have taken a course in primatology and social and cultural anthro course. you could look and see what you can do with it but it will likely be piecing research together on cultures and their practices

  5. Have you thought about doing a study abroad program through your university? You could study anthropology for a semester or a year in another country that does have a well-developed Anthropology program and make contacts through that university. You could also see first-hand what kind of careers are open to someone that wants to work in anthropology.

  6. You have the good fortune to be near the oldest city in the world, Catalhoyuk, dating from 8,000 BCE...

It's near Konya, and has ongoing Anthropological/Archeological research going on, partially funded by the British...

Anthropology specifically is probably somewhat newer as its own field than archeology, but you just have to find your opportunity in the right place, at the right time...
