I want to be a photographer?!?

(I think I spelled photographer right)

Im 13 y.o girl and im really interested in photography, when I told my friends they laughed at me, and one of my guy friends call me a L*****n because he though I meant…. Photographer for playboy…

Is it okay to want to be a photographer? (NOT for playboy)

I also need to know, how do you become a photographer, if your know what I mean!

If you have good quality images of "stock" quality you can offer them for sale via an agency such as shutterstock

You would get paid every time someone downloads one of your image if you are good this can earn hundreds if not thousands of Dollars per month

I started learning the art of Photography when around 10 years old. Then at High School I joined the school photographic club, I learnt a great deal here. At this time I started with a 35mm Single Lens Reflex cameras, of which now at the age of 65, I now have a collection or around 6 different 35mm cameras with accessories.

I have been all through the processing of B&W films & printing, Colour Negatives & Prints, Colour Transparencies, Contact Printing, Enlarging of Images etc. Now for the past 5 years I have been working with Digital cameras and processing the images on computer. Takes a bit of getting use to but I still enjoy it.

At present I am using a ‘Fuji FinePix S5600 SLR’ camera. Everything is in one place, Zoom Lens from about 28mm wide angle though to a Focal length of about 380mm, (Able to see the craters on the moon!), Onboard Flash, as well as many different settings for Manual & Automatic to obtain the image required, including Video. And using a 512mb memory card, I am able to take over 800 photographs on the one card, so am able to take several images of the same subject and then bin the ones I do not want later after I have examined them on the PC.

I use Adobe Photoshop 8CS on my computer. With this I process my own images and then print them out on a Photo Quality Printer, Put the images onto CD so as to be able to view them on our TV using a DVD player.

Working with a scanner, also am now able to also repair old and damaged photographs as well as. All great fun when you have the equipment.

If you plan on buying a camera, buy the best you can afford – It will be well worth it!

The cheaper cameras give good but poor results compared to the more expensive. If you are going to start with Digital you need to look at cameras giving an image of over 5 million Pixels. The higher the pixels rating the better the quality of the images. You can always turn the image size down to suit your requirements.

DO NOT LET OTHERS PUT YOU DOWN!

Photography is a great hobby but expensive, but if you were to become really good with the camera you can earn a massive income as a Professional Photographer when you leave school.

First of all there are many types of photography and some make quite a bit of money doing what they do, second, it's good that you are starting young, it means you will learn a lot by the time you start a career.  

Okay, you need to decide what kind of things that you like to capture, nature, people, art, life and so on.  You need a camera, start with a small digital compact, they are cheap nowadays anyway, when you get older you may want to start using an SLR or DSLR, which is more commonly used today.    

I did graphic design at college and used camera's a lot as a part of my work, you need to learn about, composition, exposure, shutter speed, angles, light balance and much more, it's not easy to learn if you are very new at this.  Do art in high school if you can and then move onto a photography or media class at college, then you will be set to do as you want when your older.  

I have a friend that is a proffessional photographer, his camera is worth like £2,000, so know that one day you may need expensive equipment and even some lense could cost well over £500.  He also does modelling, but you can make a living taking photographs, depending on who you work for and how you do it.

absolutely, photography is a great career, and most universities/colleges run courses in photography. basically, join a club if you can, try to incorporate photography into your art classes, and just have a camera with you as much as possible, as its aways practice... good luck!

Of course its okay to be a photographer, im one at my high school newspaper, my friend is a professional newspaper photographer.

Step 1

Take pictures for your high school yearbook or student newspaper after you have taken a workshop in the basics. You will get an idea of how deep your passion is for the medium.

Step 2

Decide which type of photography - such as news, advertising or fine-art photography - best suits your interests and talents. Search the Internet for some online resources and organizations.

Step 3

Understand that a four-year college degree is increasingly necessary if you want to be a photojournalist or a photographic specialist in medicine or other sciences. The contacts you make and the experience you receive from required college internships will be invaluable.

Step 4

Develop an outstanding portfolio. Include excellent photographs you have taken on your own - in particular, those focusing on a given theme.

Step 5

Be willing to work as a photographer's assistant once you have some experience. You are not going to be competing with experienced photographers for a while.

Step 6

Realize that more than 50 percent of photographers work on a freelance basis. Many magazines and organizations that use photographers do not keep them on staff.

Step 7

Attend workshops and seminars to remain up-to-date on technical advances in photography.

There are many branches to photography. The modelling side. Nature, Portraits, Architectural, Fashion.

There are many ways you could go about being a photographer,

You could build a portfolio and say look i'm good give me a job.

You could go to college and study photography.

As someone said above. Always have a camera with you.

You never know when you will see unbelievable shots.
