  1. I feel your pain, I'm on my mom's insurance and what she did was when i was added to the policy the made me pay the difference!  If your sister has another accident and the insurance goes up, she should pay the difference, not you or your parents.  Also I'm looking to get my own policy!!  the best thing to do is SHOP around!!

  2. You can easily compare how your quotes will change in internet, for example here: http://carinsurance.deep-ice.com

  3. well then , get your own insurance but shop around first...

  5. why don't you just shop around, there is so much competition out there, check with Mercury, Progressive, Allstate, Geico, 21st Century

  6. you should go to http://u76.org/qc4 and see the different quotes you can get. its reallly easy to use and got me the best price and i saved about 350 dollars.

  7. You should approach a price comparison site or an insurance broker first of all for a quote, as they will check with lots of companies to get you the best deal, whereas an insurance company will only quote for their own products.

I wouldn't take yourself off the family policy until you have got the quotes as it can sometimes work out more expensive to have a policy in your own name. On a family policy, whilst your sister may increase the overall cost, your parents are experienced drivers and will bring the cost down making it cheaper than a policy in your own name, and insurers usually reduce the cost of family policies as it is in their best interest to have all the family on cover with them.

Make sure you tell the insurer that you have driving experience and have driven under the family policy as some insurers will give you a bit of discount for that. As family policies often have a high excess, it may be worth applying for the quote on the same level of excess so you can compare the two like for like.

When you have decided which company you are going with, it can sometimes work out cheaper not to get it from the price comparison site, but to get it from the company itself as you will not then be paying any commission the price comparison site charges. Have a look at a promotional code web site such as www.myvouchercodes.co.uk to see if there are any further promotional discounts available, and if the company you are getting it from offers an online discount, I would buy it on the internet to get the cheapest possible deal. If it is close to your birthday, it is worth waiting until after your birthday as you will then be a year older, and seen as a slightly reduced risk by the insurer.
