I want to work in the film industry, but I'm not fully aware of all the different majors, occupations, schools, and especially what courses you need.

Can someone please give me insight?

  1. You need to look more into the industry and figure out exactly what it is you'll be doing.

  2. If you want to get into cinematography, you should try to go to a speciality school. Art schools will lead you in the right direction and cut out all of the bs time taking general education courses. Also, a lot of private art schools will help you get job placement, and you will most likely have a better, well rounded portfolio and understanding of film if you go to an art school rather than a traditional university.

California has tons of great schools like these. Some are: Academy of Art College, Expression, and Brooks.

    Best of Luck!

  5. go for it!

  6. Cinematography is really a class, not a major.  Film Studies is a major.  Film criticism, film history, media production, those are classes.  If you want to major in film, you better be real talented.
