I'm 18 years old, have my GED, but no work experience as of now. I need to save up for an apartment in the city so I can be closer to my cosmetology school, Aveda. I'm looking for practical advice that will increase my chances of getting hired. Thanks to anyone who responds with something helpful. [=

  1. Those retail stores are having a tough time right now with the economy, i would suggest applying a lot more than just one place. It is the law of averages, the more places you apply the better chance you have. When you apply make sure to stress what makes you different or better than other candidates, not bragging or cocky, just be confident and know why would be good for that certain job. FYI starbucks had layoffs recently, i would try like a Target or Best Buy, somewhere were they employee more people per location.

  2. Well it's good that you want to get a job! Work experience is a good thing to have, just keep in mind that if you goto a starbucks or any coffee place that instead of you being the customer, you will be the one making the drinks for the people. I've worked at two bagel/delis and at times, it's hard to work with customers. As long as you are willing to learn and listen and everything you should be fine! People can be very picky about what they order and how much of it...it might be different because starbucks is a company and not a small business local deli/coffee place but it's all pretty much the same..I hope that helps. Good Luck! And yeah apply at a bunch of places too not just one better not to keep all of your eggs in one basket
