I want to write a play!?

I'd like to start writing a play. So my question is, does this sound like a good topic? Any advice or tips on writing?

-It's the 1950's in a tiny European nation named Carpathia. The aged queen tragically dies of a stroke, so her young granddaughter must assume the throne. The girl, still in her late teens is mentally unfit to take on the duty of queen. Still haunted by her grandmother's death, she is utterly depressed to the point of killing herself. Together, her mother and her fiancee' must encourage her to take on the throne.

there should be like a war and stuff...Like a rival person trying to take the throne and the grandaughter realizes that taking the throne is her rightful place...You can develop it further...but main idea is here
