  8. Simply excellent question:

Precisely, The rating of each team is obtained by dividing the multiplication factor total points scored at any point of time and total matches played at that point of time by the summation of the matches.

In other words, it can be represented as the weighted average of the point & matches factor.

Technically speaking, the derivation of the points vary from time to time based on internal stipulations of either the sponsors / Committee.

Thanks for the patience and reading the answer.

  9. With regard the staticity it's probably because they haven't been updated, for example Sri Lanka's recent Test win hasn't been taken into account because the table hasn't been updated since 14th July 2008 (stated in the bottom right of the table):

With regard Shane Bond the Reliance rankings website FAQs:

Q How do you decide who is or isn't included in the list?

A Players have to have appeared in a match within the qualifying period to appear in the lists (normally 12-15 months for Tests, 6-12 months for ODIs). For example, Anil Kumble disappeared from the ratings lists for a while in 2001 because he hadn't played a Test for over a year, but he reappeared as soon as he played his next Test. If a player confirms his retirement he is also removed from the list. So, for example, Darren Gough was removed from the Test ratings in August 2003 (though he remained in the ODI list because he hadn't retired from that form of the game).

Bond's last Test was in November 2007 and he hasn't retired so he will remain on the list until at least November of this year. Also Bond has lost points by not being selected, after his last Test he was on 731 now he's down to 668.

With regard Vaas he averages under 30 over the past year and past two years so the stats say he's not in poor form. Any bowler who averages less than 30 in the modern batsman-friendly era deserves a pat on the back.
