ICC conducts teleconference regarding spot-fixing

The International Cricket Council will arrange a teleconference with the lawyers of the three suspended Pakistani players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir today.
ICC’s move to have a teleconference was taken after Butts UK based lawyer, Yasin Patel requested that the ICC delay the full hearing of the code of conduct commission tribunal which was to be held from January 6 to 11 in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986.
Butt’s lawyer appealed that the hearing should be postponed until http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed regarding the player’s involvement in spot-fixing.
In addition, Butt’s lawyer has also taken the plea that the inquiry should be held after the crown prosecutor’s office in London delivers its decision on Scot Land Yards investigation.
ICC will have a teleconference with the players and their lawyers to consider and discuss the request of Butt and his lawyer since the two other players – Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir are also supposed to attend the hearing in January.
On the other hand, the lawyers of Asif and Aamir don’t sound keen on rescheduling as they want the decision from ICC as soon as possible.
If the tribunal upholds any evidence from the anti-corruption unit of the ICC, the three players will have to bear with life-time bans and heavy penalties.
Former test captain Butt, has had long going controversies with the ICC, ever since the suspension of the trio from September during their tour in England, and he has also changed his lawyers frequently.
He has recently filed a comprehensive response to ICC regarding his spot-fixing allegations by ICC, ACU, which were rejected and he has to submit a fresh response again.
Although, PCB has gained an extension of the deadline for announcing the preliminary squad for the World Cup 2011, till January 5. The three players will unfortunately not be a part of the World Cup squad because of pending decisions in the hands of the
ICC.
However, any of the players including, Shoaib Malik, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 or Kamran Akmal, who were suspended because of match fixing allegation, may join the World Cup squad after getting clearance.
