"hi ; iam a permanent resident i applied for my wife to come to usa , she has been approved by ins and they transfered to national visa center .i wonder how long it takes to get the visa . please any body has any information just write me , thanks

The  visa might be granted more or less in three months depending on the volume of applicants being processed.

Actually, the first answer is wrong, unfortunately for you and your spouse. Since you are a permanent resident, your petition for your wife falls into the F-21 preference category.  At the moment, it currently takes over 5 years from the filing date before petitions in this category are valid for use. On the other hand, if you become an American citizen while you and your wife are waiting for the petition, it would be upgraded to an IR-1 petition, IR stands for immediate relative. IR petitions are valid once they are approved, although your wife would still need to be interviewed.  If this does happen, be sure to tell USCIS about your petition for your wife, because they won't look for it unless you tell them. Your wife would fall into the F2A category and if you look at the bulletin, you'll see that the priority date for these petitions is now Jan 03, so not quite 5 years to wait.  The priority date is the date your petition was filed, so this chart means that only petitions filed on or before that date can be used to emigrate to the US. The National Visa Center will contact you when your petition is close to being valid.

When you apply for anything, they usually send you a letter saying that they received your application. The letter tells your case number and if you go to their website and enter the case number, it will tell you the status.

The DHS (not INS anymore) website also gives you the dates for any kind of case. They tell you which date they are processing now for any kind of status/visa or residenship.
