Ian Holloway apologises to Mike Dean
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has apologised for an incident that involved him confronting referee Mike Dean in the tunnel after Blackpool’s 2-1 loss to Blackburn.
The 47-year-old manager was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after the incident, and he might be given a touchline ban.
Holloway said, "I apologise for the abusive language I used. I used the word 'useless' because I didn't think he had a very good game, and I put a horrible one in front of it. That was out of frustration and I shouldn't have done it.”
The Blackpool manager added, "I'm still learning and I have got to learn quickly. I should have learned last week that whatever I shout out at someone because I am frustrated, isn't acceptable, not from my position.”
Blackpool, who are the favourites to be relegated this season, have made a good start in the Premier League. The team has picked up seven points in six games, and has defeated Newcastle and Wigan away from home.
Holloway must answer the FA charge by Friday, and the manager may have to watch the Premier League game with Manchester City from the stands.
Speaking at a press conference before the Liverpool game, Holloway said, "My lads need me on the side, so if I am going to be punished up in the stand where I can't help them, what good is that to me and my team? So I have got to learn."
The Blackpool manager admitted that his actions were not helpful. “That is not a good example to show to anyone in that tunnel and it is not what I want to say to that referee, because he did his best."
Holloway will hope to add to Liverpool’s woes this weekend when his side visits Anfield.
