  1. Environmental groups, like the Sierra Club. A nearby park with hiking trails and some wildlife viewing. Any organization concerned with the health of your area's water supply, quality of air or quality of soil. You can volunteer with them to learn how they promote environmental awareness and how they work to protect the environment.

You can find these groups in your area by visiting:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site, http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

All list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations.

There's also this government sponsored site, http://volunteer.gov/gov/ which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc.

  2. how about a recycling plant or a garbage dump..?

  3. animal shelter

  4. Volunteer at your local Science center.

  5. While you may or may not want to volunteer, there are many, many opportunities available to assist you with your environmental biology class that you will probably find incredible enjoyment and satisfaction from.  Dependant on what your location is (not necessary and ill advised to list publicly), there are websites you can look in to and research online before you make a decision.  Our city, state, and federal agencies are always in need of volunteers (keep in mind that there are often requirements that need to be met prior to volunteering for these types of agencies such as fingerprinting and there is usually a fee for that but some agencies will pay or reimburse- but well worth the effort!)  You can certainly check with your local city government or look up their website to see current opportunities - although I recommend walking in.  It is most always better to inquire in person so they can see who is applying.  Your local parks would also be a great place to start...  or the zoo!  It is based on your likes and dislikes.... you can do anything from recycling to feeding and caring for the animals at your local zoo.  The possibilities are endless!  Also, you may want to check your syllabus to see if there are any restrictions for your volunteer work and start from there... hope this information was helpful and best of luck to you!

  6. You can also check with your City or County govt ... see if they have an environmental division and they can give you local ideas.  Just call the general info line and ask if they have an environmental division - then tell them what you need to do and get ideas... try not to jump on first idea that comes up ... make a choice that is good for you .... (or ask your teacher!).
