Question:

If men were better than women?

Then why are men worried about women taking their jobs?

Wouldn't it be the way if men were really better than women, then there'd be no problem with men getting jobs?

I'm not saying that either gender is better or worse, but I am curious as to why some men carry on in such a misogynistic manner and belittle women yet complain that women are doing better in some instances?

  1. we aren't worried but it's an economic issue and issue pertaining to our natural patriarchal roles, women are born as mothers, nurturers and caretakers and men are grown as protectors and laborers. men and women have undeniable differences and we are built to serve different roles in society

  2. I agree with David on this- employees should not be hired to fill a quota- only the best should be accepted, and such things as race, gender, religious affiliation and the like should not be a consideration in the hiring process.

There are  jobs where physical strength is a requirement.  Obviously, the majority of those jobs will go to males.  Not because they are male, but because it is far more likely that a male will meet those requirements needed to do that particular job.  Firefighting is a good example of this.  Few women are chosen to become firefighters- this is not discrimination, simply that they lack the physical strength to do the job.  I have heard a few state that perhaps the requirements should be adjusted for female applicants, but I disagree vehemently.  The strength is needed for a reason.  I can see it would be much the same for any type of job where such things as physical strength is a requirement.

Would you hire an idiot to be a doctor so as not to discriminate against those less intelligent?

  3. Ever heard of affirmative action, quotas and special laws that allow less qualify women to get the job at men's expense?  In fact, in some countries there are even laws that say that a company MUST have a certain amount of female employee.  If there are too many male workers in a company then that company have to fired at least some of them and replaced them with female workers.

Men are LOSING their job simply because they're men.

"""Imagine you're one of the 13 men on this all-male board of a large company and are told five of you must go to be replaced by women. Unlikely? Not in Norway, where they're enforcing a law that 40% of directors must be female."""

    Just one of many examples

  4. Shivers: I am perfectly happy to let the market decide who the better employee is. It's when companies like mine are told to employ 50% women in finance jobs, despite 80% of maths grads  - and therefore applicants to our jobs- being male, that men get pissed off.

The bottom line is this:  you can't have positive discrimination without negative discrimination.

  5. It's possible that they understand that women can be just as good or better than them, but keep saying otherwise to make themselves feel better. (Accompanying this is often the assumption that the women got hired purely because of affirmative action.)

  6. It isn't that they are acknowledging that women are doing better. I dont know what it's like where you live, but around here women get jobs easily because employers are concerned about being charged with discrimination. And alot of these men have families to provide for. Of course they are concerned.

  7. There is an obvious dichotomy the way you have constructed the castles in your mind.

If men think they are better than women(and hence discriminatory), they would be more envious of other man taking their jobs than a woman talking their jobs(if everything was fair while allocating jobs).

If men think they are equal to women, then they are fundamentally(by definition) non-discriminatory and hence women are not getting discriminated.

  8. I second Guns Fanatic. Women who don't fill the requirements are still getting jobs over qualified men. Where i work is the same. Yet women can have women only dominated fields such as Fernwood etc. My girlfriend said there is no male employees or personal trainers.

  9. And women don't have families to provide for, too?

  10. Oh boy the old "we need two incomes thing."

Men are not threatened by women as so many feminists want women to believe. They simply want a work environment that is free of PMS and gossip.

  11. Some people are just petty.

  12. that is way to simplistic and general, which men? when, where, who?

which men are being referred to? if you are referring to mens rights groups they are simply proposing equal oppurtunities and equal rights, making it 100% LEGAL to not hire men SIMPLY because they are men and hiring women is NOT equal (it may be to some feminists)

    e.g.

setting up departments of womens education etc. when women were doing worse in education yet completely ignoring when men do worse is another area of concern. I think the men you were referring to may be worried why over 90% of work related deaths are male and why the 25 most dangerous jobs identified are almost exclusively male.

An equally appliable question is if women were better then men then why do they need a women and eqaulity unit, womens minister, women and trade unit, centre for advancement of women etc. or why they blame men for their own shortcomings. Hillary clintons case is a recent example

  13. We are not better; we just want to be EQUAL.  The laws now protect women and give them an unfair advantage.

  14. Men are worried about women being GIVEN their jobs.

  15. Because women are given jobs that men are more qualified for because of quota. Not because there better but because the gov says there needs to be more women employee there.
