Im getting BRACES at 19!!

Question

Well this thursday I'll be getting braces! Im excited in a way because I have always wanted my teeth fixed but then again I dread it because I have a 22 year old boyfriend. I havent even told him that Im even getting braces yet, I dont know how?! We have been together for about a year and I am afriad he will think of me as a little girl or something and will not find me attractive anymore? Guys and Girls, do you have any advise or any input???

Yes,,,,,,I'm sure he loves you for who you are rather than your teeth> If you don't want the traditional braces you can get invisalign, its clear trays that you take out ONLY to eat and brush your teeth> You can barely even see them

i work with a dentist and we do these type of braces on every age of people....15- our oldest being 62 years old. your not going to look like a little girl to your boyfriend,,,you will look like someone who can afford to fix their teeth when not happy with them>

Good Luck and see if Invisalign might be the way to go for you.

I am 27 and I just got mine last year!  My boyfriend never acted like it was a big deal and was really cool about it.  My guy had braces when he was younger so he knows what it is like to have them and has never had a problem with me wearing them.  Which is good since they arent going anywhere for a while! I think it is easier to have them when you already have a guy because at least I am not trying to date people while wearing braces.

It'll be fine! If anything, he should be happy for you. Everyone wants a beautiful smile. :) If he doesn't like you anymore just because your going to have braces then get rid of him. Just tell him that you want to have a prettier smile, and that its better to have straight lined up teeth in the long run :) Good luck! I'll be getting braces in about a month.

Lucky you, and you are old enough now to take care of them better, keep up your oral hygiene, and take care of the problem that could have affected you for the rest of your life.

Follow instructions, keep your teeth clean around the brackets, and afterwards.....wear your retainer...teeth move!!!

Well if he likes or "loves" you for who your then shouldn't be a problem braces are no big deal but if he cares about looks that much then dump him i mean kinda should of dumped him already just cause you sitting here thinking about how your gonna tell him because what does it effect him any?! your the one getting them which is a very good thing!

And really a guy should like you for you and if he doesnt and thinks different of you then you shouldnt be with him its not a big deal just say im getting braces if he has a problem let him GO!

Surely he likes you for more than your teeth. :-) Don't worry. My daughter got braces and she had no problems with her boyfriend. That is just a minor aspect of a person's appearance and should not at all influence what someone thinks of you. Besides, you can always remind him (and yourself) of how much prettier you will look afterwards.

I'm 34 and have braces. My boyfriend likes me just the same. If your boyfriend don't find you attractive anymore because you get braces, then he's shallow and you don't need him anyway. BUT I'm sure he'll love you just the same!

well if he rly cares about you he wont care about braces.

most people make braces such a big deal, but its really not.

most people dont even look that different.

just tell him casually, "im getting my teeth fixed, im getting braces"

and if hes a good boyfriend he will be happy for you.
