Listen, while you have written/quoted a very informational article but you do not have the right or justification to talk in such a tone about the Sahaba. I appreciate that you wrote Sunni brothers and sisters, but don't you think that the whole Sunni-Shia divide is hurting our prospective as Muslims.

I am a Sunni, but I hardly know the difference between us and you and I really don't want to know anything. I know that you are a Muslim too and that is what matters.

according to sunnies imam ali r.a is the great of all greats, no one can be equal to him ( except rasool allah s.w.s) but this does not mean that we have the liscence to disgrace the others. if those big personalities had some differences those days, allah will be the best to judge n give his descision, not us, what  we read now is about 1500 years old narrations, who know how much is truth and twist in it. it is better to leave those matters for allah to judge n we should just respect them as they were the companions of rasool allah s.w.s. n we should follow the quran and sunnah of rasool allah s.w.s. and should not get into disputed matters, by increasing or decreasing any ones respect of position, we will not get any benefit, but we will sure may get the wrath of allah s.w.s or rasool allah s.w.s. so better to leave this to allah to decide who He wanted to send to h**l n who to forgive. but no doubt imam ali was the great person and will be the great person. Madina tul ilm.

I can give a few references.

Abu Bakr is the best of men after me except a prophet should appear.” (Kanzul Ummal)

“Abu Bakr is the best of the people after me except one who may be a prophet.” (Tabrani Kabir Kamil Ibne Adi quoted in Jame Saghir by Imam Suyuti, p.5)

“Abu Bakr is the best of my followers except anyone who might be a prophet.” (Dalmy quoted by Kanzul Haqaiq of Imam Mondadi, p. 7)

“Abu Bakr holds the highest place in this Ummah except that a prophet is raised amongst them.” (Kanzul Haqaiqi Hadith Khair-el-Khalaiq by Alama Abdur Rauf, Munavi)

The Prophet (sa) loved Hazrat Ali (rz) very much, but he also made clear who was the best after him.  I have no doubts Hazrat Ali (rz) felt that same love for Hazrat Abu Bakr (rz) as well.

@Asker - As I said, I have no doubts that the Prophet (sa) loved Ali (rz).  But the above Hadeeth speak for themselves.

Hazrat Ali(ra) was also named Asad-ul-llah!!

which means he was the lion of Allah(swt). he was brave and so on Hazrat Omar(ra).

Abu Bakr and Umar were usurpers who conspired, along with the fat cats of Mecca, to seize power from he who the Prophet appointed and return it to the newly-converted pseudo-Muslims who once ruled Mecca.

It's both funny and sad how some Sunnis actually believe the fabricated hadiths, which are now discredited by both s**+'as and Sunnis, about Abu Bakr being a favorite of the Prophet.

Let's not forget how the Prophet said: "Glad tiding O Ali! Verily you and your companions and your partisans (s**+'a) will be in Paradise." Let's also not forget who killed Fatima (as) and her unborn child.
