Implanting a tracking device into children

I am conducting a poll for my ethics class and I wanted to know how many people think implanting a tracking device in children is (for purposes of missing children). Please leave your Age, s*x, and if you have children or not. Thank you. It is just an opinion poll. Please do not harrass others for their answers, thank you.

The young lady who asked about safety-(remember it is just a poll, so we will assume that) yes it has been proven safe, the only concern is how society would view it. Ethical, versus not ethical.

  1. I think it should be handled privately anyway. You wouldn't go around advertising your social security number-why would you even tell someone or anyone you had it unless you needed the use of it. I believe it is ethical-shoot women get IUD's implanted, others get gastric bands implanted and other women get different forms of birth control implanted-all that is okay, but not okay to implant something that could save our child or protect our Alzheimer's patients? I don't think it should be mandatory-but to each our own!! Maybe those who don't believe in it should talk to the parents of a child that never came home.

  2. Female, 28, I have one child who is 14 months old. I can't imagine doing this to my child. I would research the percentage change of children becoming abducted. I would much rather have a tracking device on my child's cell phone, which is much more common. I would worry about something going wrong, also, with something implanted into the skin. It could be defective or end up causing cancer from some kind of rays it gives off or from the materials it is made out of. Who knows. I think it is also unethical. Your child, when older, has the right to their own privacy. It's almost like stalking your own child.

  3. No, I don't think it's ethical. If it isn't removed when the person becomes and adult, and even if it is, it's too Big Brother for me, and it gives not only the government but anyone with the proper equipment the ability to spy on us. Not to mention if a perv gets their hands on equipment that detects such things, their job just got 1000 times easier. Plus, a tracking device like that is likely to be tiny and just under the skin, so it would be a simple matter for the kidnapper to make a small cut and remove it, and either dump it somewhere or slip it into someone else's car or shopping bag or put it in the mail or whatever to throw off whoever was doing the tracking. So not only would it be unethical, but it would also be pretty impractical.

  4. Its unethical and 1 more step towards left-wing dictatorship-communism

    16/M/no

  5. I'VE OFTEN WONDERED WHY THEY DONT ALREADY HAVE THIS OUT ON THE MARKET!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM A MOTHER OF 2 KIDS, IM 29, AND WOULD BE THE FIRST IN LINE TO GET THE 'TRACKER'.

  6. I personally think that getting it IS safe. Godforbid the child is abducted, it will have a chance of recovering the child.

    34,F,yes. 4 children.

  7. I would say its a wonderful idea IF it were used only for finding a child in the case of abduction. I have no doubt as time went on the government would figure out a different use for such a device. I have no doubt that if my child were to be abducted I would wish for anything to help bring them home.

Something that might be of interest, you can have your pet micro chipped in case they are missing, my dog is. Micro chipping a child might be something that becomes reality.

  8. if this is still an open question

    16/m/no

    considering you're american

i think by means of finding missing children this is ... rather ethical

but it may infringe upon their rights as american citizens otherwise

  9. It sounds like a good idea but if it became common practise and a child was kidnapped, the kidnapper would possibly chop that body part off to get rid of the tracker device. Could be messy.

  10. I'm 21, F, no kids yet.

I think that it would be unlikely that the chips would be removed in adulthood, and therefore we would soon all be monitored.

  11. Hi, I am currently in the Army, im 22, female, and have 1 baby girl (8months) ... let me start off by telling you what happened the other day, i had a dream i was "set up"...me and my daughter went for a walk, she was in her stroller, there was a little girl on her bike...she pretended to fall off her bike knowning i would help her, so i did and left the stroller about 5 feet away, when i helped the girl i turned back and my daughter was gone!!! i woke up crying to my husband and thats when we talked about a tracking device to put on her like a bracelet or something, but i DEFINITELY AGREE with it, of course if it was safe for the child, and ONLY IF THE LEGAL GUARDIAN KEPT THE TRACKER not the government you know what i mean....i hope you do well on your paper
