Importing birds? 10 points for answer?

i want to get some macaws but in canada it is too expensive so i was wondering if i could get some from colombia and bring them here but i don't know if it's legal if it is please tell me how to do this and what are the costs BTW colombia is in south america

  1. it would be VERY expensive (its cheaper to buy a bird thats already in canada) and you would probably have to go through a lot of paperwork and stuff to legally take them from columbia. most of the time macaws are illegally trapped and then sold on the black market to america because its illegal to take them. you will have better luck by finding someone who rescues unwanted parrots and adopting one. it will be far cheaper, completely legal, and better for the macaws.  


  2. I'm going to throw major wrench in the works for you.

    It's called CITES - Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.

    ALL macaws are either Appendix I or II meaning you can not export them from their native countries without special circumstances and documentation.

    There is a reason they are expensive... you can't import them and they aren't easy to breed.
