In Austin Powers?

I watched it last night on FX and they changed Alotta Fagina's name to Alotta Cleavage. Why did they make two versions?

you would think they would be able to say v****a on tv since it is a medically correct term, plus its cable.  i guess they just tried to make it more young person friendly.

Sometimes they have to change it because they have strict limits on certain words that are "inappropriate"

The same reason they changed the words on a lot of movies that appear on TV. To make it more audience friendly, they re-record over bad words in movies. It sounds stupid when they do that, but you know some parents. They let their kids watch movies with language like that then complain that it has swears in it. Personally, I think that if you don't approve of the language in movies, then don't watch them. Don't make the rest of us suffer with cheesy re-records just to satisfy your distaste for profanity.

Most R rated movies also have a "clean" version, in which they dub in alternate words or phrases for ones that might not be approved by the FCC for TV broadcasts.  Even though 'v****a" is the name of a body part, and therefore not really a bad word, the censors might have felt that some TV viewers would find it inappropriate and probably decided to change it to something a lot less offensive, like "cleavage," to avoid any problems.

The word "Fagina" for her last name had to be changed when aired on FX. It probably resembled the actual thing too much so they changed it to "Cleavage" which is much less blatant.  FX has strict regulations for language and most movies they air are edited for content.
