  1. i wouold say province and city.

    calgary, alberta

  2. I'd say the city, then elaborate further if they don't know where it is.

Quite often I actually have to ask them if they know where the state directly below our province is, then tell them we're north of that.

  3. i say Toronto, Canada... im pretty sure everyone in the usa know where Toronto is.

  4. If I'm in the USA, depending on the state, I might just say "Canada". Some people don't know that Canada is divided into provinces and territories, and there are some (thankfully not many) who don't even know that there are cities in Canada. They think we live in trapper cabins and igloos.

In Washington, Oregon and most of California, its a safe bet that people would recognize the province name and maybe the city. In the southwest, probably the same. In the midwest - they know about Toronto and Montreal, but not much about western Canada. In the south - good luck.

  5. i say city and then province

  6. Province.  Not many people would recognize the name of the small town I'm from.

  7. Province.

  8. I would say both... unless it was a major city like Toronto or Calgary.

  9. I always say the city and then province.

  10. city first  then clarify if needed

  11. City and province...

  12. typically province.

But yeah, either way, province, and if they know the province then the nearest big city.

For me, it starts with B.C. Then it'd go to Vancouver.

But never my actual town because it's one of those smaller ones that isn't small but to people that don't live in the general area they don't know it.

I LIVED in the States in a town in Washington that was 2 hours from the border. They thought Vancouver, B.C was the capital of Canada.

When I said I'm from Ontario, they looked at me like I was crazy. I then said 'Ottawa' and they knew the name but not where it was. I then said 'Canada' and they got it.

Needless to say when it comes to Americans, no matter where you go always start with the province to see the basic knowledge, then the country. Usually no one bothers with the cities since they don't know 'em since they 'aren't American' (I've honestly come across that a lot - I'm not totally stereotyping)

    Think of it this way:

It's like you going to another country and telling someone where you live. If you're American and talking to an Australian or something, would you mention city first or the state?

  13. i always say toronto, canada. but toronto is big enough that i think most people have heard of it. if i lived in a small town, i would probably say my province.

  14. your province because not everyone could know where the city is you live in.

  15. Well, I live in Quebec City, in the Province of Quebec.. So I say that I live in Quebec ;)

But sometimes (a lot in fact), people will look at me with a little smile and clear question marks in their eyes :p So I hand up saying "You know.. in Canada ?". And that's when they understand :p

Then again, it happened to me while I was in _Boston_ (about 6h from Quebec City itself), so it's not necesseraly only in the middle of the states :p

  16. I would say province because I live in a small town and no one knows where it is. Besides, most people think that Canada has one city, Toronto.
