  1. Try a family intervention. Have her do 30 days of rehab. Counseling and another year of weekly NA meetings. Get guardianship of the baby and help your sister.

  2. where i am from if you have a kid and got it taking away from narcotics drugs or crack you cant have your child back at all unless you go to rehab for 6 to 12 months

  3. The child is in the legal custody of the state.  The state will make the decisions regarding placement, not your sister.  So, you need to talk to the social worker about your desire to have the child placed in your custody.  If they don't know your intentions, then the child could easily end up adopted outside of the family.

When I worked for the Department, I had a similar case.  The grandmother came forward, so we did a home study and the little girl was able to be placed in the grandmother's home.  If she hadn't have done this, the child would have likely been placed in an already licensed foster home outside of the family.

You can also discuss legal guardianship with the social worker.  Keep in mind, though, that as long as a case with the Department is open, the legal custodian is the state, despite who the physical custodian may be.

  4. try family legal or paralegal. its best to get guardianship first or call cps and have a social worker place the baby with a family member cause the last thing you would want is for the baby not to know its blood relatives. that's just my opinion. if the social worker feels that the family member requesting to adopt this baby is fit for adoption they should lead you in the right dirrection. if you have guardianship, then this situation will help a lot. hopefully this helped.
