Question:

In the book Oliver Twist...?

Ok I have to read the book Oliver Twist for English but I'm about halfway through and have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what is going on. Charles Dickens just uses the MOST confusing words ever. I don't know where Oliver is, he's been in and out of SO many foster cares its impossible to keep up. And there are an incredible amount of characters. Its like a new character every 3 pages! And I don't want to restart the book because it took me way to long to get this far and I just don't have enough time to do that either. So if anyone could give me a summary of what happens in the or ANY sort of help, that would be AWESOME.

Thanks so much!

  1. Charles Dickens always had many characters in his stories. You really have to pay close attention or you will get confused.

I could give you a brief overview, but I'm not sure it will help you understand everything. Dickens' books are very involved, and I don't know what you have read and what you've retained.

My suggestion is for you to read through all the information to be found on Yahoo Education - http://education.yahoo.com/homework_help... - about Oliver Twist. It has summaries for the chapters and commentaries. It is quite thorough. The "brief synopsis" also has a list of some of the characters.

Sparknotes http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/oliver/ has information, too, as well as a character list.

Just as a note: when reading any of Charles Dickens' books, I'd recommend you write down characters as they show up in the story. Include a description, comprising appearance as well as who and what they are, to jog your memory whenever you need to check on who some character is. In this case, my suggestion is you either print out or write down the characters listed in the sites I've given you.

    I hope this helps.
