What is inside the nose of a standard cab EMD locomotive, is this were the toilet is?

  2. Yup. There's a toilet in there. On the older Geeps and SD units, the wheel sand is stored in there too, as well as the other end of the locomotive. These are containers that are around 50 gallons in size. The nose also makes a good place to store all kinds of stuff. Extra air hoses, cheater hoses, hose wrenches, switch brooms, M.U. cables, knuckle pins, and the conductor's over sized cooler that has 23 sandwiches and a chef salad in it.

    Also sander valves, Cab Signal control if so equipped or radio equipment or other this and that.  Keep in mind, when ordering a locomotive from EMD, only the frame is standard equipment.  All else is built as ordered with available options.
