I recently Purchased a '07 Moomba Mobius LSV and it is the inboard v-drive and all that i have on the bottom of the boat it the strut, shaft, prop, rudder,2 intakes, speedo wheel, and 3 tracking fins... nothing extra that would stop me from being able to steer in reverse...The dealership told us that we can steer the boat in reverse b/c there needs to be watter running passing the rudder in order to steer... and everyone that we tell that too tells us that we should be able to steer in revers that that something wrong with my boat or is it common in all inboard boats... Can you steer your inboard boat in reverse, i have tried and im not sure if i did steer it in reverse or not.

  1. it will go backwards in directional changes, but maneuverability, you won't get. clumsy is a good word for it.

  2. You are not going to have much manuvourability as has already been stated.  The only time I back up is to pull off the trailer or out of the dock, and to stop my forward momentum when picking up a rider after a session.  My advise would be to get out there and practice and see what your boat will do.  My MC X30 manuvours better as slow speed, you certainly don't want to gun it.

  3. Reverse is very clumsy for boats of this design but yes it is possible. Water IS running over the rudders, just in the opposite direction.

It's a performance boat and that performance is intended to be forward. Any vehicle (car, boat, motorcycle) that is designed with performance in mind is going to have compromises in certain areas.
