is Indonesian food too spicy? I'd like to try some but I'm not a fan of spicy food, since it could trigger my hyper acidity.

  1. If ur gonna try it in a resturant, you can always ask to make it none-spicy or to reduce the spice level.

And if you gonna cook it dont put spices atall. :-D

  2. Chili is a major ingredient in Indonesian cuisine but not all dishes are super spicy. That being said the hottest dish I have ever eaten was Sambal Udang (chili prawns) in Sumatera many years ago. Anything with sambal in the name is likely to be hot, but give it a go it's a great cuisine

  3. I went to Indonesia in 2003, and I don't remember their food being spicy at all.  I was in Bali, which was the only island that is Hindu (the rest are Muslim).  I don't know if that makes a difference.  I remember we ate lots of chicken, though.

  4. It depends, some recipes or dishes are spicy but this is something you can control.  If you are cooking at home, just decrease the amount of chilies or de-seed them.  If you are ordering at a restaurant, ask for mild dishes and request that the spice level be mild.

I love Indonesian food, it's fresh, delicious and wonderful.  Go try it!
