I have a 3 HP 1800RPM and it is 50 cycle i want to change i tto 60 what is the law for this ex V x RPMx cycle wire size etc.

  2. Synchronous speeds of 50Hz motors are 3000 RPM (2-pole), 1500 RPM (4-pole), 1000 RPM (6-pole) etc. There is no such thing as an 1800 RPM, 50 Hz motor.

    If you need to rewind a 50 Hz motor for 60 Hz operation, it is not a matter of rewinding for 60 Hz, but a matter of rewinding it for the correct or optimum voltage for 60 Hz. If the motor is designed for 400 volts at 50 Hz, the optimum voltage for 60 Hz operation without rewinding is 60X400/50 or 480 volts. Operation of a 50 Hz, 380-400 volt motor at 60 Hz, 440-480 volts does not require rewinding. If the motor is a 230 volt, 50 Hz motor, the optimum voltage for 60 Hz would be 60X230/50 or 276 volts. If connected to a 230 volt 60 Hz supply, the motor would be operating at about 17% below optimum voltage. Depending on the actual voltage at the motor terminals and the actual load, that might cause the motor to overheat.

    If a single phase motor includes a capacitor, the capacitor circuit would draw more current at 60 Hz.
