Infection after giving birth?

i gave birth on monday by forceps delivery and had an episiotomy, since then i am in agony but its not were the stitches are, the pain is around my clitoris and top of labia. it feels like someone is holding a lighter on it constantly or cutting of my labia with scissors and when i make even the slightest bit i could scream. i am walking with my legs together and dragging my feet along. the midwife didnt say anything til yesterday and she said my bleeding was a bit foul smelling so may be an infection and prescribed co-amoxiclav for 7 days and not to use any creams or antiseptic. its really getting me down coz i struggle to stand up to get my baby or sit down when feeding her. i feel like this is the best time of my life with my new little girl and yet i cant be happy til this pain is away. any1 else experienced this and if so what would u recommend i do to ease the pain?

  1. You should go see a regular doctor.  I had a massive uterine infection, which was caused by an infected tear that my dr had "repaired"  after my second child.  they can go from just slightly problematic to life endangering real quick.

I toughed it out for a few days with what my midwife gave me, but on the third day I ended up in the ICU for a five days.  I was on an iv for a week, with 5 different antibiotics.  Granted mine was worse case scenario, but it can happen.  If anything just do it for your comfort.  Obviously what your midwife gave you is not working.

  2. try some warm salty water, bathe the area whenever you need to, or use a face cloth and just hold gently against the body. Dont put too much salt in the water or it wont work as well. Hope this helps I remember the pain of stitches - the anti biotics will kick in soon and it will start to fell better once the infections under control.

  3. I am so sorry that you are experiencing this at such a great time in your life. If you gave birth on Monday and you have stitches, it is still very early. I sympathise, because I had the same thing with my first child. It will get easier in time, but if you feel that you need to see the midwife or doctor, please do not feel as though you cannot call! When you have stitches, they can make you feel extremely uncomfortable. When healing, they can be extremely painful for a short time. It doesn't last forever. I wish you good luck with your new family. x

  4. Wow I had a stitch near my clitoris with my first and aside from hurting when I peed if I didn't use the peri bottle it didn't hurt.

    Please get a second opinion.

I think there is something seriously wrong, and I see no reason that you couldn't use a numbing spray.

  5. keep an eye on this closely i had stitches with my first child and on my six week check up found that all my stitches had burst exept for one which was in the wrong place and i needed to go back to hospital to have this one cut but my point is my midwife clearly wasnt doing her job properly and i got phobed off not saying this has happened but listen to your body only you really know how you feel if you feel things arent right then they proberly arent good luck
