Question:

Info needed with a phone line?

I added a question yesterday about my phone line which has been answered but I need a little more help.

I have managed to get my 2nd line working after figuring out what was wrong, but it's still not working as it did before.

The changes to the line are that it is now longer, and the wires inside are copper-like where as the previous wires where tin-like.

Do you think it's best to buy better cabling, i.e. tin-like and shorten the wire like it was before?

  1. yes

  2. if your cable is made for phone lines you should not have any problems it may be that one of the wires are not connected right check them again and if you can't find the problem get it checked out.

  3. nah cable is cable, and will work, make sure the cables terminate on the same pins so if say a blue wire is on terminal 5 put the blue wire on terminal 5 of the other socket, if you can tell us what the actual problem is i can probably help further

  4. Both cables will be copper, the tin like ones are coated copper, both will be as good as each other, but the connections are the weak point, ensure that the wires are firmly connected. Only two cables should be connected, if there is another one connected, it may cause trouble.
