  1. Gaudi's work is admired by architects around the World as being one of the most unique and distinctive styles.

His work has greatly influenced the face of Barcelona Architecture and you will see Gaudi's work all over the city.

Antoni Gaudi was born in Reus in 1852 and received his Architectural degree in 1878.

From the very beginning his designs were different from those of his contemporaries.

Gaudi's work was greatly influenced by forms of nature and this is reflected by the use of curved construction stones, twisted iron sculptures, and organic-like forms which are traits of Gaudi's Barcelona architecture.

Gaudi also adorned many of his buildings with coloured tiles arranged in mosaic patterns. This added another important dimension to his buildings which is so often overlooked by architects - the use of colour.

The combination of original design, interesting shaped stonework, and vibrant colours in Gaudi's work give the viewer a truly breathtaking visual experience.

  3. Antoni Gaudí is the most well known, and his architectural structures are outstanding, but that isn't all you'll find in Barcelona, there is also the Barri Gótic, with its magnificent cathedral and the City Hall (Ayuntamiento) in the Plaza de Sant Jaume. The Palau de Pedralbes on the Diagonal Avenue, On Las Ramblas:  El Liceo opera building (must be seen inside). The new part of the city, built for the olympics in 1992, near the port area and La Barceloneta...El Poble Espanyol with samples and reproductions of different types of spanish archtecture, Castell de Montjuic, overlooking the city, la Fira de Mostres and the Palau Congrès, the palaces of Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenia, and many unique and lovely buildings, such as the Music Conservatory.... Get yourself a good small guidebook, and start walking around the town...it is really worth your while

One thing worth seeing right now is the Plaza de Toros...(bullring) that has been literally hoisted up...and will be transformed (unfortunately) into a shopping center in the near future...

    Enjoy!!

  4. Spain is very proud of his work and people come from all over to see it, but I think the guy was a little demented.....well, 'twisted' to be sure.
