im about to buy an ipod touch and was wondering about how to charge it the first time. ive heard people talking about the significance of the initial charge for electronic devices before so i want to know if you should charge it for exactly the recommended time in the instructions or charge it for longer

  1. shouldnt it already be charged when you buy it? if so then dont charge it again until the battery runs all the way down. if not then charge it all the way up first. then do the same thing letting the battery run down.

  2. It's all BS.  People are confusing the iPod batteries with the old nickel batteries where there was a "memory" effect.  The iPods use a Li-ion (lithium ion) battery, which means that the first charge is the same as the fifth, or the sixth, or the 39439483th charge.

What's more, you shouldn't run down the battery every time; that may actually harm the li-ion batteries.  Li-ion batteries like to be kept at near full capacity.  When they are empty for too long, acid will form and harm the battery.
