Inland Vs Coastal temperatures?

Man, i can't believe i asked this question in the wrong section. oh well. >_>

My question is, how do inland and coastal areas differ in terms of temperature? Are coastal areas generally cooler? And, please provide a brief explanation. =)

Coastal waters in the morning has a flow of the water to inward areas as the temperatures warm and the air rises.

There is moisture in the air which actually evaporates and cools the surrounding air.

Farther inland you have more heating and less moisture because nothing is modifying the air to stay cooler.

Whether inland or coastal areas are warmer depends on many things, but particularly how warm the ocean is.  Where I live, in Southern California, coastal areas are much cooler in the summer due to the moderating effect of the ocean temperature, which never gets above 80 degrees.  On the other hand, during the winter, the ocean never gets colder than about 55 degrees, so it warms up the coastal sections relative to inland.  The effects can be very large, especially during the summer.  It is not unusual to have temperatures near the coast be about 70, while 30 miles inland they're 100 or more.
