Inserting rectal thermometer too far?

I want to cry right now. You see when my baby was 3 months old she caught a touch of pneumonia, and ever since then i take her temp rectally all the time. I have a fear she always sick. And now she only poops when I take her temp. Plus I didn't know that you could stick it it too far. Is is going to ahve problems? im really worried I messed her up

One inch in children under the age of one, 1 1/2 inches over the age of one.  You can buy rectal thermometers that are only one inch long for newborns, I have one, it's really nice, and it's flexible so if baby wiggles, she won't get injured.  If you do take it under the arm, add one degree to the temp. (Rectally is the only accurate way to get a true temp.)

  2. I think she will be fine.  Has she had any bleeding or acted like she's hurting?  I think you should visit with her doctor to put your mind at ease.  Try taking her temp under the arm from now on.
