Installing a new OS?

I am currently running on windows XP home basic, and I want to install XP professional. I already have the disc and everything. My question is, When I install a new OS, will any of my data be lost or possibly be lost?

When you boot the disc, it should detect the existing Windows and ask if you want to upgrade. Click "yes".

data such as your mucis, videos, pictures, etc etc will not be removed

but some programs made by microsoft, or any upgrade of a microsoft program will be removed
