For my 21st Birthday I got a Digital SLR camera and it's my pride and joy. My last camera got stolen from me so I really want to make sure I'm protected in case it gets broken, lost or stolen. I've never had to go buy insurance except for a Holiday or for a Mobile phone so where do I start?!?

  1. your local insurance company.

extended warranty won't cover broken or lost or stolen.

  2. Check the policy for your household contents. You may find it may be already covered or may be coverable for a small excess payment.

  3. Try Square D online. They insure eBay items. The store may offer extended warranties. You can also get it covered for theft by homeowner's and car insurance Check with your agent.

  4. You can add this to your existing home insurance policy (but remember that making a claim affects the no claims discount for th whole house) as either included in the general items or a specific mention for an all risks part.

The more expensive but best option is to contact your local broker for a separate all risks policy for named items such as camera, ipod, glasses, laptop etc. then if you do lose them the claim will be easier and faster and it will NOT affect your home contents - this best for expensive or valuable items that ARE likely to be stolen or lost away from the home.

contact your local broker or insurer for details.
