Question:

Insurance payment on accident?

I was recently involved in an accident where I was hit from behind in traffic. The other guys insurance (State Farm) said that they would take full responsibility for the accident. My Allstate claim guy said it would be better if you went through his insurance because it wouldn't cost me anything like a deductible. So the State Farm guy came and took pictures. I had my allstate estimate in the car and the guy asked if he could look at it then took pictures of that too. Was that bad that I let him take pics of my estimate? Is that going to jeopardize anything? It seemed a little fishy that he took pics of the all state estimate.

  1. He just wants to see how the Allstate estimate compares to the one that he is going to write.

    Nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes I ask to see the estimate written by a body shop or other adjuster to see if maybe they caught something I missed.

  2. How on earth would that possibly be fishy (sorry- it just cracks me up how everyone always thinks the world is out to get them)

My thoughts is he probably just wanted an estimate to look at so that when he wrote his own he had some guidelines to make sure he was in line.

  3. They need to see the estimate in order to pay for the damages. They always need that. Even if the adjuster doesn't pay directly from the estimate, he needs to work from it.
